The RECOACTIV® Kidney Tonicum is an appetite-stimulating* supplementary food for older cats aged 7 and over and those with early signs of kidney dysfunction (IRIS stage I+II).

It contains low mineral levels and has a reduced phosphorus content, supplemented with important vitamins. This and a moderate content of high-quality and easily digestible proteins ensure optimal support for weakened kidneys.

Thanks to its high level of acceptance and its liquid form, the RECOACTIV® Kidney Tonicum ensures increased absorption of moisture in order to promote the excretion of urinary (waste) substances and prevent dehydration (drying out). It encourages food intake despite a reduced appetite and thus supports the change in food to a usually less palatable special kidney diet.

RECOACTIV® products contain important vitamins and trace elements and consist of natural, food-grade ingredients. They are free of grains, colors and preservatives.

*In collaboration with the Institute for Animal Nutrition at the Free University of Berlin, Department of Veterinary Medicine, a scientific study has proven that RECOACTIV® both promotes the absorption of water and significantly stimulates the appetite of cats and causes increased food intake.

What is Chronic Renal Insufficiency in Cats (CKD)
Chronic renal insufficiency is a predominantly age-related, irreversible kidney dysfunction in which the kidney's filtration capacity is increasingly limited due to progressive destruction of the kidney tissue (nephrons). The disease only becomes symptomatically visible late; according to studies, only when 70% of the kidney tissue has already been affected. The progression of CKD can be slowed down therapeutically, but cannot be stopped, and kidney tissue once destroyed cannot be restored, which is why early detection and an appropriate diet are of great importance for the quality of life and life expectancy of the affected animals.

    Signs of kidney failure (CKD)

    • Increased thirst and increased urine output
    • Loss of appetite and weight loss
    • Changes in coat: dull, shaggy, dry or flaky coat
    • Dehydration: Dehydration occurs because the electrolyte and water balance is no longer successfully controlled by the kidneys in the event of kidney failure

What can you do for a cat suffering from CKD?

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is an irreversible disease in cats that cannot be cured and is the most common cause of death in older cats. Therapeutic approaches therefore aim to slow down the progression of the disease if possible and to optimize the quality of life of the sick animal. The following aspects are of absolute priority:

    • Ensuring the absorption of nutrition and moisture
    • Relieve the strain on the kidneys through a high-quality, kidney-friendly diet

As the disease progresses, the use of a phosphate binder is recommended in addition to the kidney diet. This reduces the strain on the kidneys without endangering the cat's protein supply.

For cats with advanced CKD, RECOACTIV® Renaltan with phosphate binder is available to relieve kidney activity.

For cats with renal insufficiency / CKD and for prophylaxis in older animals

    • Relief for the kidneys through high-quality proteins and reduced phosphorus content

    • Adjusted calcium-phosphorus ratio

    • Increase in food intake thanks to outstanding acceptance

    • Maintaining the necessary fluid balance and preventing dehydration

    • Support in switching food to special kidney diet food

My cat had an overactive thyroid and other organs such as the kidney were damaged. This product really helped to improve my cat's general well-being. As a result, she had 2 more wonderful years. Now at the age of 15 I had to let her go. I can definitely recommend the product and she also liked it very much, which is not a given. A veterinarian recommended the product to me at the time.

Our cat was diagnosed with CKD. We've been really struggling with nutrition for months. She was already a picky cat before and now it's even worse. Can't do it without an appetite stimulant, as soon as it loses its effect she doesn't want to eat anymore. She also receives 2 other medications for her kidneys and I give her infusions 2-3 times a week. So we can't say whether the kidneys have recovered or whether it is the tonic that has a positive effect. However, she seems more vital to me and she loves it. Even if it has no use, I still order it because she licks the 10 ml from my hand and it also promotes bonding

Our 17-year-old cat has been receiving 10ml every day since December 2022 because of his kidney failure. Since then he has been doing well and his blood values are holding up. Of course, it is not just the tincture that is responsible for this, but also the right diet and the regular administration of medication. We give the tincture into his mouth with a syringe since he doesn't lick it off the plate himself.

Our 18-year-old cat suffers from kidney failure, has hardly eaten recently and has lost a lot of weight. Now he is given this tonic (initially 3x10ml a day) and after a short time he is feeling significantly better - he has his appetite again, is walking better again and his fur is looking really great again! The tonic seems to be a real hit in terms of taste - the portion is always eaten straight away and quickly :-)
